Albert Germain 91, of Victory Hwy, died Thursday, February 23, in the Philip Hulitar Center Providence, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Rita (Berard) Germain. Al was born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Ovila and Alma (Laboissiere) Germain. Al was a US Navy veteran of WWII serving in the Asiatic- Pacific Theatre, and the Philippine Liberation. He was a cobbler for most of his life working for Porter Shoe and eventually owning his own business, Al’s Shoe Repair for many years. He later worked for AT Cross as a polisher retiring in 1988.
Al was an avid golfer, bowler, and card player. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the North Smithfield and St. Joseph’s Sr. Centers as well as Le Club Richelieu.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons; Herve Germain and his wife Marcia of Woonsocket, Andre Germain and his wife Carol of Hopkinton, and Gerald Germain of Woonsocket, two daughters; Jeanne C. Rochon and her husband Raymond of Woonsocket, and Lucille Germain also of Woonsocket, six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren, and one brother, Armand Germain of Bristol. He was also the brother of the late Herve Germain, Cora Cornell, and Bertha Warzybok.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 8:30 AM from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main St, Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Park Ave, Woonsocket.
Burial will follow in the RI Veteran’s Cemetery, Exeter, RI.
