MILLBURY-Donald Paul Lavin, 83, of Millbury, died peacefully Saturday, February 25, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Jeannette L. (Dupre) Lavin; two sons, John C. Lavin, III of Douglas and Steven F. Lavin, Sr of Auburn; two daughters, Ruth-Ann Kaseta and her husband Mike of Auburn and Ann-Marie Essex and her companion, Mike Kelly of Worcester; six grandchildren, Steven, John and Andrew Lavin, Donna and Kayla Oslowski and Adam Essex; and seven great grandchildren. Don also leaves a brother, Francis T. Lavin of Missouri; a sister, Mary Bartlett of N. Brookfield; sister-in-law, Evelyn Schwalenberg of Maine and Arizona; and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Dale Essex; three brothers, Edward, John and Paul Lavin and two sisters, Joan Lepinski and Elizabeth Lavin.
He was born in Worcester, son of John C. and Cora M. (Paul) Lavin and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Don worked for Worcester Taper Pin, Corp. now known as Wright Machine, for many years before retirement. He was on the Millbury Fire Department for 11 years, retiring as Lieutenant. Don was a member of Sacred Heart-St. Catherine of Sweden Parish. He enjoyed going to the casino, scratch tickets and going to car auctions.
Services for Don will be held Sunday, March 5 at Lindquist Lundin Funeral Home, 36 Butler Street, Worcester with visiting hours from 1-3 pm immediately followed by a prayer service. Burial in All Faith's Cemetery will be held at a later date.
