J. Dwight Carroll, 93, of Anderson, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Crown Pointe Senior Living in Anderson, following a brief illness.
He was born on January 19, 1924 in Bonnie, Illinois, the son of Donald and Retha (Kirk) Carroll. He served in the US Navy during WWII, and was employed in nursing services at Elgin State Hospital in Illinois for over 30 years. He was an active leader in Church of God congregations in Illinois and Indiana. He was a member of Madison Park Church of God. He was a basketball and baseball player and fan, an outstanding chess player, and avid reader.
He is survived by his son, Dennis (wife Emily) Carroll of Anderson, 4 grandchildren; David (Stephenie) Carroll, Lori (Mike) Chandler, Elizabeth (Troy) Jones, and Diana (Chris) Brown; 8 great grandchildren; Davis Carroll, Sayla Carroll, Ella Chandler, Jacob Chandler, Aiden Jones, Anna Jones, Noah Brown, and Rose Brown; and special brother in law; Robert Colson.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine (Colson) Carroll, his parents, and siblings; Estelee Gaither, Duane Carroll, Virdine Moger, and Carmaletta Carroll.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 11 AM at East Maplewood Cemetery, with Pastor Tom Malbone officiating.
Memorial Contributions may be given to the Carroll Leadership Lecture Series Endowment at Anderson University.
