Obituary

Lannan, John (Jack) Joseph, of Louisville passed away at the age of 93 on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Robley Rex Veterans Hospital.
Jack was a World War II Navy Veteran and participated in Operation Overlord (D-day) at Omaha Beach, Normandy where he earned a Purple Heart. He was a member of St. Stephens United Church of Christ. He was a lifelong democrat and past president of the North End Democrat Club and Past Post Commander and charter member of the American Legion Portland Post 278. He proudly served as a Jefferson County Deputy Sheriff for 11 years. He retired from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet with 19 years of service. He was bestowed the Honor of Kentucky Colonel.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Jenell (Goff) Lannan; and brothers, Richard and Michael Lannan; and sisters, Lois (Lambie) Healy and Doris Branch.
He is survived by his children, Dorothy Neal (Gaines), Phyllis Lehr (Butch), Lois Adams (Jim), Joe Lannan (Regina) and Trish Lannan; his brothers Tom (Pat) and Charlie (Ann) Lannan; and sisters, Kathleen Lucas and Anna Louise Abell; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren; and many extended family members and loved ones.
Funeral service will be Tuesday at 1 P.M. at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway; with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday at 2 P.M. until 8 P.M. and after 11 A.M. Tuesday.
The family would like to thank the staff of VA Hospital for the excellent care of our Dad and the compassion extended to our family.
