Obituary

Angelina “Angie” Marquez, born December 20, 1921, was a life-long Ventura resident and parishioner of the San Buenaventura Mission. Angie danced her way to heaven on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 surrounded by her loving family and devoted sister, Elvira Millan.
Her 95th birthday was celebrated with her family as she was serenaded with the family’s traditional birthday song, Las Mananitas. Angie lived a life of service and devotion to the Church. She volunteered endless hours at Holy Cross School and participated in the Parents Guild when her children were young. Angie lived her life giving unconditional love, showing kindness to all, while always demonstrating a self-sacrificing spirit. She loved cooking and gardening, was a role model for her family, and an inspiration for all who knew her.
She was a loving and devoted wife to her husband, Phil “the barber” Marquez for 64 years until his passing in 2011. She was a loving cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Angie will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Angie attended Holy Cross School and was an active member and past president of the Rosary Altar Society and a member of the Young Ladies Institute. She had a passion for gardening, especially roses and orchids, and was a member of the American Begonia Society, Ventura Branch.
Angie was preceded in death by her husband Phillip Marquez, her parents Jose and Josefa Millan, and her brother Alfonso Millan. She is survived by: her siblings, Elvira Millan, Edward Millan (Raquel) and Sister Mary Jacinta; her four children, daughter Kathleen Gregory (Lorne), Vancouver, WA; daughter Barbara Marquez-O’Neill, Ventura, CA; son Phillip Marquez (Leilani), The Woodlands, TX; and daughter Mary Ann White (Brad), Ojai, CA; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours Thursday afternoon March 9, 2017 from 3 to 6pm in the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME, 757 E. Main Street Ventura. Rosary and Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 10 at 10 am at the San Buenaventura Mission, 211 E. Main Street Ventura. Family and friends are invited to visiting hours Thursday March 9, 2017 from 3 to 6pm in the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME, 757 E. Main Street Ventura. A Most Holy Rosary will be recited on Friday Morning Friday March 10, 2017 at 10am in the San Buenaventura Roman Catholic Mission, Main Street Ventura, Mass will immediately follow in the Mission. Interment will immediately follow in Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura.
