Daniel James Wilde, 62, of New Bedford passed away suddenly on Wednesday February 22, 2017 at St. Luke's Hospital after years of battling health issues. He was the husband of Linda M. (Filkins) Wilde.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late William L. and Dorothy B. (Travers) Wilde, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Wilde proudly served in the U.S. Army as a recruiter and master chef for many years.
He was a beloved baseball coach at S.E.Y.A.A. and was a father figure to many area children. He was known as a comedian to his family and friends. His greatest joys in his life were his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He was a member of the New Bedford English Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Surivivors include his wife Linda; three children, Christie L. (Wilde) DeMello, Daniel J. Wilde II, and Amanda M. Wilde, all of New Bedford; two sisters, Virginia Wilde of Dartmouth and Geraldine Wilde of Somerset; four granddaughters, Ava DeMello, Inaya Wilde, Jasmine DeMello, and Nylayah Wilde; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late William and Matthew Wilde.
His visitation will be held on Monday February 27, 2017 from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
