Sophie Govatsos age 99 of Milton passed away February 21st at the Guardian Center in Brockton. Born in Boston, she was a lifelong resident of Milton. She worked as a waitress for many years at Blinstrub's Nightclub, where she met many of the top performers and movie stars from that era, one of her favorites being Jimmy Durante. She also was a waitress at the White Rabbit Diner in Onset for many years. Sophie was a very strong, funny, independent and politically active woman who was a frequent voice on the Boston Political Radio Stations. She was a very caring person who would do anything for family and for many years took care of her parents and her sister, Joanne. Sophie was a hard worker who worked two jobs for many years and helped build both of her homes in Milton and Onset. Beloved daughter of the late Demetra and Anthony Govatsos. Sister of the late Helen, Virginia, Christine, Mary, Joanne, James, Charles, Edward, George and John. She was the aunt of 20 nieces and nephews who loved and adored her: Jerry, Ellen, James G., Vickie, Gloria, Dianne, Elaine, Jim M., Ginger, Ginny, Penny, Richie, Chrissie, Charlotte, Alan, Christopher, Barbara, Chuck, Andy, and Philip and is also survived by 22 great nieces and nephews. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Sunday 3 to 5 pm. Funeral service at St. Catherine’s Greek Orthodox Church 119 Common St. Braintree Monday morning at 10. Burial Milton Cemetery.
