Obituary

SALEM – Erwin E. Bishop, 92, husband of the late Florence M. (Serwatka) Bishop, died Monday morning, February 20, 2017 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers, following a long illness.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Joseph and Tekla (Kaszycka) Bishop. He was a lifelong resident of the city and a graduate of Salem High School and a lifelong parishioner of the St. Thomas the Apostle Church.

A Navy veteran of both WWII and the Korean Conflict, he attained the rating of Radioman First Class.

Prior to his retirement in 1979, he was employed by the Singer Sewing Company for many years at their Salem store where he was the sales manager.

Erwin, together with his late wife was an avid traveler and also enjoyed antiquing.

He is survived by one grandson, Robert B. Arnold of Burlington, one granddaughter and her husband, Lindsy B. and Jake Connolly of Wakefield, one nephew, Chester and his wife Irene Bishop of Rowley, two great nieces Sarah Bishop of Tewksbury, Lauren and her husband James Donaher of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and a son-in-law and his wife, Robert and Gerri Arnold of Jamaica Plain. He was predeceased by his daughter, Susan L. Arnold, brothers, Chester Bishop Sr., and William Bishop, and sisters, Helen Peach and Bee Krajeski.

His funeral services will be held Thursday, February 23, 2017 with a visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 am at the St. Thomas the Apostle Church, North St., Salem at the Peabody line. Cemetery service will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
