Obituary

Beatrice Minnie (Scott) Estabrook, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on Monday February 20, 2017, after a slow decline since her husband's death last August. She was born December 22, 1926 in Shiloh, Illinois, daughter of Delbert Scott and Carrie (Kemp) Scott. She was a descendant of Col. William Scott who fought for New Hampshire in the Revolutionary War. She was raised in the Evangelical Church. After she graduated from O’Fallon High School in Illinois, she worked as a secretary for the Monsanto Company in St. Louis. She married Bion Roosevelt Estabrook, Jr. on Christmas 1951 in O'Fallon. She traveled around the country and around the world with her husband because of his work with the FAA and the State Department. For several years she raised their children by herself when he was in Viet Nam. She was responsible for running everything smoothly. In Montana, she would often take their 4 children camping and fishing by herself in the wilderness. She saw that their children had their music lessons, swimming classes, sports, scouting (where she was a scout leader), etc. In her various camping trips with the kids, they saw everything from the Grand Canyon to the Giant Ball of String. She spent many years in the Middle East with her husband as well as traveling in Europe and the Mediterranean. Once she had the experience of landing and taking off on an aircraft carrier. Bion retired in 1983 as Chief, Civil Aviation Assistance Group, Muscat, Oman. They then moved to Derry, New Hampshire where she enjoyed her home and friends. She was a big Red Sox fan who never missed a game on TV even if it was extra innings and 2AM. She was excellent at needlepoint and there are many wonderful pieces of her work in their home. She had a great sense of adventure; the family joke was, if you said, "Mom let's go to Antarctica", she'd be packed and waiting to go before you could stand up. When her sons were teenagers, she took in their friends who were hungry or needed a place to stay. She was still mowing the lawn into her 80's. She would have celebrated her 65th wedding anniversary this past Christmas. She loved her family very much and was the center of their universe.

She is survived by daughter Barbara Estabrook of Derry, NH, son Ed Estabrook of Pine, Colorado and son Boyd Estabrook (wife Karen) of East Hampstead, NH. She was predeceased by son Kenneth Estabrook in 2014 and husband Bion in 2016. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Kait Estabrook, Lauren Estabrook, and Brien Estabrook-Gray, as well as her sister Gladys (Scott) Brennan and her family in Mississippi.

Services will be private and internment will be at the Forest Hill Cemetery in East Derry, New Hampshire. Anyone wishing to make a donation in her name should consider a local animal shelter (or perhaps even adopt a pet).
