Robert D. Jackson, age 66, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, with his children at his side on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary O. (O’Malley) Jackson, to whom he was wed for 39 at the time of her death on March 19, 2016.
Born in Attleboro, MA on May 13, 1950, he was a loving son of the late William A. and Helene “Betty” (Mahoney) Jackson.
Bobby grew up in a close-knit family with childhood summers spent at his family’s home in Craigville. He was a 1968 graduate of Mansfield High School and a lifelong communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Jackson had worked as a Dealer Manager for Alliance Energy in Waltham for twenty years, recently retiring in 2016. He had previously been employed for twenty years as well at Baxter Healthcare.
Bobby was a wonderful father, husband and brother. He and his late wife Mary were the proudest parents in the world and oh how they loved their grandchildren. Time spent with his brothers, sister, and large extended family was another important part of Bobby’s life. His hobbies included playing golf, and he was a true sports fan who enjoyed watching the Patriots the Bruins and horse racing.
He is survived by his devoted children William B. Jackson and his wife Jennifer of North Attleboro, Thomas O. Jackson and his wife Kelly of Norton and Caitlin A. Doherty and her husband William of Mansfield. He was the beloved brother of Mary Frances Braga of Attleboro, Bart Jackson and his wife Diane of Mansfield, Larry Jackson and his wife Jane of Norton, Allen Jackson and his wife Jean of Barnstable and the late Kevin Jackson. He was the dear brother-in-law of Elaine Jackson of Mansfield, and the late Reid Braga and Anne Jackson. He was the adoring grandfather of William, Abigail, McKenna, Thomas, Alicia, Robert and James. He was the son-in-law of Bernard O’Malley of Mansfield and the late Alicia O’Malley. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Thursday, February 23rd at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, February 22th from 5:00-9:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
