Sarah, 36, died unexpectedly on February 9th, 2016. Though cut short, her life was spirited and filled with love. Her passing is preceded by her beloved mother, Ellen (Chisholm) Duggan of Melrose, and her grandparents David and Lou Chisholm of Salem; and Peter and Dorothy Duggan of Roslindale. She is survived by her loving family -- her father and stepmother, Robert Duggan and Margaret German of Shrewsbury; her brother, sister-in-law, and niece, Peter, Katie, and Grace Duggan of Dedham; her stepsister and niece, Shannon and Lelaina Nicoletti of Chepachet, R.I.; and stepbrother, sister-in-law, and nephews, Brendan, Melissa, Lucas, and Jasper Smith of Oxford. Sarah also leaves behind a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. All will miss her dearly.
Sarah grew up in Melrose, Mass., and lived at various times in Boston and New York. She will be remembered as a smart, worldly, passionate woman, a first-class cook, and an excellent writer. She graduated near the top of her high school class and attended several schools in a lifelong effort to continue her education, including New York University and UMass Boston. Sarah had an unending love for children, and was passionate about taking care of them. She invested much of her life in work as a nanny and caregiver, and many children are better off for having felt Sarah’s love, especially her nieces and nephews.
Sarah's death at such a young age came after a long battle with addiction and life struggles. She received years of support from her family and large network of friends, and they are devastated by her passing. It is hoped by all that she has found peace, and is now at rest with her mother.
Visiting hours will be held in the P.E. Murray - F.J. Higgins, George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 2000 Centre St. WEST ROXBURY on Sunday, Feb. 19th from 2-6pm. Relatives & friends kindly invited. A private funeral service for family will be held in the funeral home on Monday, Feb. 20th at 12 Noon. Interment private.
