New Bedford – Gil daPonte Araujo, age 79, passed away on Wednesday February 15, 2017 at Sacred Heart Home. He was the loving husband of Maria (Azevedo) Araujo and the son of the late Jose and Margarida Araujo.
Gil was born in St. Michael, Azores and, after immigrating to this country in 1964, worked in Textiles for many years until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Maria (Azevedo) Araujo of New Bedford; 2 children: Carlos Araujo of Harwich and Neide Caetano of New Bedford; 2 grandchildren: Jordon and Jamie; 4 great grandchildren: Dominic, Evan, Darnell and Isaiah; as well 2 siblings and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be Friday evening 5 – 7 P.M. with a service to take place during that time. Cremation will follow. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, MA.
