John A. Last, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully, February 15, 2017, at the Massachusetts General Hospital, following a lengthy illness. He was 66 years of age. John was the beloved husband for nearly 48 years of Lynda M. (Cassidy) Last. Born in Boston and raised in Somerville and Andover, John was one of seven children of the late John and Ada (Hill) Last.
John worked as a painting contractor and owned and operated the J & L Painting Co. in Wilmington for many years. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing and woodworking. However his greatest joy was his family and he especially enjoyed spending time with his cherished grandchildren who were the light of his life.
In addition to his beloved wife Lynda, John is survived by his devoted children, Kimberly Machera and her husband Michael of Haverhill, James Cassidy and his wife Tonya of Billerica. He was the loving grandfather of Nicole Last of Wilmington, Emma, Abigail, and Hannah Cassidy of Billerica, and loving great grandfather of Madison Last. Cherished brother of Mildred McQuillian of New Hampshire and the late Charlie Last. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 374 Main St. Wilmington, Monday, February 20th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral service celebrated in the Abundant Life Christian Church, 173 Church St., at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2 thru 6 p.m. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in John's memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701
