Barbara Ann Scoles Agler passed away at her home in Ventura on Saturday, February 11, 2017. She was born August 18, 1936 at St. John’s Hospital in Oxnard to George Scoles and Kathleen Donahue Scoles and was a lifelong County resident.
She attended school in Fillmore, at Academy of St. Catherine By The Sea in Ventura, Dominican University of California in San Rafael, and San Francisco State College.
Barbara married Jack G. Agler on November 14, 1959 at Saint Francis Church in Fillmore. They lived in Santa Barbara, Ventura and Santa Paula until his death in 1990.
She was a beloved and dedicated teacher for over 30 years. She taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grades at Academy of St. Catherine by the Sea, Our Lady of the Assumption, and Sacred Heart Elementary School in Ventura, Santa Clara Elementary School in Oxnard and St. Sebastian School in Santa Paula.
Barbara loved animals, having such varied “house” pets as goats, chickens, french hens, rabbits, horses, dogs and cats. She loved to travel and attend the theater. An avid reader, she was a generous supporter of the County library system.
She is survived by her daughters Carolyn Porter and her husband Adam and Anne Mercer and her husband Dell. As well as her brother John Scoles and his family, Kelly, Caitlin, Marvin, and Marin. She will be missed by her many friends and cousins.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 17, 2017 at 11:00 am in Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 3275 Telegraph Road, Ventura. Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, Ventura.
