CHICOPEE – Doris J. (VanDall) Lemay, 81, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, February 14, 2017. She passed into Eternal Life at Willimansett Center West in Chicopee surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving husband and children. She was born in Holyoke on August 5, 1935, a beloved daughter of the late Emile A. and Beatrice (Gauthier) VanDall. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Cathedral High School and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. She was employed as a clerk at the former Piotte’s Pharmacy in Chicopee and had previously worked as an office clerk for New England Telephone and Telegraph in West Springfield. She was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and especially loved babysitting her cherished grandchildren. She loved to spend time with the morning “McDonald’s Coffee Club” on Memorial Drive in Chicopee. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, Joseph A. Lemay. They were married at Sainte Rose de Lima Church on October 20, 1956 and were blessed with over 60 years of happiness together. She also leaves her three loving children, Keith M. Lemay and his wife, Faith, and Chicopee Fire Department Deputy Chief Wayne J. Lemay, and his wife, Lisa Guilbert-Lemay, all of Chicopee and Laurie A. Lemay of Mashpee; her four cherished grandchildren, Kamren, Cole, Leah and Janelle Lemay; her dear brother, Dennis VanDall of North Carolina; her dear sister, Claire Long and her husband, James, of South Hadley; her dear sister-in-law, Jeannette Lemay of Chicopee; her longtime childhood friend, Lucille Pray of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Lemay and VanDall families. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her dear neighbors and friends, Freda and Marcel Labrie. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, February 21, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 7:45 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Committal Service will follow the Mass at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, February 20, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
