Meredith---- Marjorie C. Gilman, 93, a long- time resident of Sanbornton, died on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Forestview Manor, Meredith.
Marjorie was born March 7, 1923 in Laconia, the daughter of the late Theodore and Mabel (Merrill) Cate. Marjorie served with the United States Navy during World War II. Following her military service Marjorie worked as a medical secretary ending her career at Lakes Region General Hospital. Marjorie had been a resident of the Lakes Region for all of her life. She was a life-time member of the United Baptist Church in Lakeport and sang in the choir for many years. Marjorie was involved with the Sanbornton Parent Teacher Organization, served as a den mother for the Sanbornton Cub Scouts, March of Dimes, New England Oxmen’s Association, and served on the Board of Lakes Region Community Health. She was also a member of the Pemi Choral Society and the Lakes Region Singers.
She enjoyed country fairs, where she could visit and talk to friends. Marge loved to watch her husband pull his steers/oxen and kept meticulous records of his achievements. She loved music and enjoyed singing in local groups. Marge traveled with her husband to New Orleans, National Parks Tour, and Nova Scotia. Above all she loved her family.
Marjorie is survived by three sons; Michael Gilman and his wife Janet, Steven Gilman and his wife Faith, and David Gilman and his wife Janet; a daughter, Avis Reneau; seven grandchildren, Jacob Gilman, Seth Gilman, Matthew Gilman, Michael Reneau, Thomas Reneau, Anna Offer, and Gabriel Gilman; three great grandchildren; three nieces and two nephews. In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Malcolm G. Gilman and a brother Theodore Cate Jr.
Calling Hours will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017 from 6:00-8:00pm at the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH using the Carriage House entrance.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 10:30am at the United Baptist Church of Lakeport, 23 Park Street, Lakeport, NH.
A Graveside Service will be held in the spring in the family plot in Union Cemetery, Sanbornton.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to United Baptist Church of Lakeport, 23-35 Park Street, Lakeport, NH 03246.
