Obituary

Alan E. Carter, 63, of Fitzgerald, died Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Select Specialty Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Arbor Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery, Turner County, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 5-7 Tuesday evening in the chapel of Paulk Funeral Home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Carter was born September 13, 1953, in Tifton, Georgia, to Myrtice Beard Carter of Sycamore and the late Garland Eugene Carter. He was a graduate of Turner County High School and earned his drafting certification from East Central Technical College in Fitzgerald. Mr. Carter served his country honorably in the Georgia National Guard. He was a salesman in the irrigation and well pump industry and traveled throughout the area working for companies including Rainbow Irrigation, Chaney Bush Irrigation, and Preferred Pump & Equipment. He was a loving father and enjoyed fishing. He loved riding his motorcycle and did so throughout the United States. He was a member of Arbor Baptist Church where he was currently serving as Chairman of the Deacons.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Sheila Goodman Carter of Fitzgerald; son, Eric Alan Carter of Dunwoody; daughter, Candace Carter Whitley of Statesboro; four step-grandchildren; a brother, Keith & Martha Ann Carter of Turner County; a sister, Jane & Steve Tanner of Chula; as well as several nieces and nephews.
