Obituary

Marjorie Ruth Owens, 94, of Westford, formerly of Winchester and Lincoln, MA, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2017. She was the beloved wife for 62 years of the late William (Bill) Owens, and the loving mother of Jane Beatty of Westford.
Marjorie was born in 1922 in Chelsea, MA. She was raised in Somerville, MA, and graduated from Somerville High School. She attended Fisher Junior College, and then worked as a secretary until 1951, when she and Bill were married. The couple moved to Winchester in 1958 and lived there happily for fifty-two years before moving to The Groves (now The Commons) in Lincoln. Bill passed away in 2014, and Marjorie continued to live at The Commons until recently, when she moved to Westford.
Marjorie, who was known as "Peaches" as a child and "Marge" as an adult, was a deeply devoted wife and mother, a loving and loyal sister and daughter, a kind and generous grandmother, and a good Christian friend to many. She was gracious to everyone and had a wonderful, gentle sense of humor. She loved music, and sang in church choirs both as a child and as an adult. Singing hymns was a great joy for Marge throughout her life.
Marge and Bill were active members of their communities in Winchester, Moultonboro, NH (where they had a lakeside cottage for many years), and in Lincoln. In Winchester, Marge served a term as president of the Women's Society at Crawford Memorial United Methodist Church, and she and Bill also served a term leading the Couple's Club there. She was a member the Winchester Estates Garden Club, and sang in the choir in both the Winchester and Moultonboro United Methodist churches.
Marge and Bill loved to travel. They had wonderful adventures throughout America including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as trips to Europe, Bermuda, England, and Newfoundland, where Marge's parents were born. They traveled to Florida each winter for five weeks, and enjoyed the community there. But probably Marge and Bill's favorite place was their home on Lake Winnipesaukee, where they spent many happy years welcoming family and friends.
In addition to her daughter, Jane, Marge is survived by her sister, Muriel Landers, and by her grandchildren, Anna Beatty and Will Beatty.
Visiting hours will be held at the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Friday, February 17 from 4-7 p.m.
Marjorie's life will be celebrated with a service at Crawford Memorial United Methodist Church, 34 Dix St. (corner of Dix and Church St.), Winchester, MA 01890 on Sat., Feb. 18 at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
