Samuel Wyatt Overstreet (aka Dakota Blane McBride), 61, of Phenix City, Alabama passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017, at Hospice House in Columbus. A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Zion Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Tifton, where he will be laid to rest. The Rev. Gerald Corbin will officiate.
Born July 11, 1955 in Tifton, Mr. Overstreet was the son of the late Quillie Verde Overstreet, Jr. and Vera Mae Young Overstreet. He was also preceded in death by one brother, David “Nat” Nathaniel Overstreet. Before retiring, he was a poet and songwriter under the name of Dakota Blane McBride. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and, in the 1980s, he was a member of the Confederate Sons of America.
Mr. Overstreet is survived by his wife, Debbie Kramer Overstreet of Phenix City, Alabama; two daughters, Ashley Camille Overstreet Ethridge and husband, Jerry of Madison, Florida and Jessica Marie Overstreet and Dusty Harris of Opelika, Alabama; two brothers, Veral Overstreet of Salem, Alabama and William V. “Bobby” Overstreet and his wife, Beata of Seale, Alabama; two sisters, Julie Overstreet Johnson and husband, Clarence of Salem, Alabama and Vicki Stancil Ragan and husband, Ken of Lagrange; three grandchildren, Bryana Ethridge and Alexys and Cheyanne Harris; and his nieces and nephews, Blake Overstreet Stancil, Jason Overstreet, David Overstreet and Vera Overstreet.
