George Gomes, 82, of New Bedford died Thursday February 9, 2017 at St. Luke's Hospital.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Richard and Frances (Andrews) Gomes, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Gomes worked as a foreman for various construction companies throughout the area.
During the Korean War, he served as a medic in the U.S. Air Force in Guam, Japan and Okinawa.
He loved all New England sports teams and was an avid pool player.
Survivors include his children, Andrea Gomes, Georgia Gomes, Dianna Gomes-Thomas, George "Jay" Gomes, Michelle Gomes, David Shehab, James Shehab, Lynda Pennini, Elaina Grota, and Anne Stevens; his siblings, Richard Gomes, James Gomes, Doris Fonseca, Eva Gomes, and Roslaine Gomes; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the former husband of the late Marian (Foss) Gomes and the brother of the late Mario Gomes, Shirley Carle, Julia Gomes, and Jeannette Tavares.
His Funeral will be held Monday, February 13th at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM.
