Obituary

RAVITZ, Melvin of Quincy, formerly of Milton and Boston, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2017, at the age of 89, his loving family at his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah and Hyman Ravitz, of Boston. Devoted husband of the late Shirley (Cohen) Ravitz. Loving father of Sharon DeLuca and her husband Joseph of Quincy, Maia Bourque and her husband Bernard of Tustin, California, and Howard and his wife Amy of McKinney, Texas. Adored Papa to Robert and Mark DeLuca, Evangeline Gantenbein, and Evan and Andrew Ravitz. Born in Boston, he was a graduate of Boston’s Mechanic Arts High School, Class of 1944. Melvin served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and retired in 1989 after a life-long career in the automotive industry. Since 1960, he was an active member of the Grand Lodge of Masons of Massachusetts; he was Past Master of Loyalty Lodge A.F & A.M. and Past Secretary of Loyalty Lodge A.F. & A.M., Eliot Lodge A.F. & A.M., and Cosmopolitan Lodge A.F. & A.M. Melvin was an avid Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots fan. He was a former player, coach, and umpire in the Boston Park League and former umpire-in-chief of the Yawkey Baseball League and Milton Babe Ruth Baseball League. Melvin enjoyed the camaraderie of being with his friends and fellow Masons and was always willing and able to lend a helping hand. Private graveside services were held on February 8, 2017 in West Roxbury, MA.
