Lamar Giddens, 68, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Friday, February 10, 2017, at the Frank Cemetery in Irwin County, Georgia, with the Rev. Ronny Griner officiating. Lisa Tomberlin will deliver the eulogy. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 6 to 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Giddens was born August 7, 1948, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late James “Buck” & Inez Rutherford Giddens. He lived in the community all of his life. Mr. Giddens was a boom operator for ITT Rayoner for 16 years. He retired as lead maintenance man from Wiregrass Georgia Technical College after 12 years of service. Following his retirement, he ran the mail route between the WGTC campuses and enjoyed being a part of the Wiregrass family. He was a true family man. There is nothing he would not do for his family. He loved them with his whole heart and he taught his family to do the same. He will surely be missed by all. He was a member of West Side Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years: Glenda Reaves Giddens of Irwin County; children: Sandy & Harris Newell of Fitzgerald, Amy & Trey Hudson of Irwin County and Kevin Giddens of Irwin County; grandchildren: Justin Newell, Dru Hudson, Wil Hudson, Ana Lane Giddens and Reaves Giddens; special neighbors whom he considered children: Chad & Julie Passmore and their son Ian Passmore, all of Irwin County; sisters: Linda Giddens Griner & Ronny and Carolyn Giddens Crews & Cedric; brother, Tarry & Becky Giddens; two special aunts: Jimmie Lee Benton and Kate Hutto and a special uncle, Roy Rutherford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Giddens.
