Paul Buras, 86, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, February 6, 2017, at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held, 4 PM, Sunday, February 12, 2017, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Earlie Holt officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, with full military honors. The family will receive friends, Saturday evening, from 6 to 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Buras was born December 20, 1930, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late John Edward & Mary Irene Ragas Buras. He served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps, during the Korean War. He was a machine gunner and received two purple hearts. He also worked with refrigeration and air conditioning. Mr. Buras was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Mr. Buras was a member of Christian Tabernacle in Fitzgerald.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Pauline H. Buras of Fitzgerald; children: John Edward Buras of Andover, Kansas, Paula & Steve Smith of Dallas, Betty Jean & Herman Lavender of Fitzgerald, Alvin Laverne & Sherry Harper of Ocilla, Pat Bayard of Fitzgerald and Jeff & Donna Bayard of Nichols; grandchildren: Samantha Buras Anderson, Michelle Buras Bychurch, Kimberly & Micah Collins, Kelli & Marc Nelms, Brandi Deen, Aaron Harper, Brian Harper, and Rhonda Lavender. Several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, one sister and a grandson, Michael Buras.
