William A. Ahern, Jr., 91, of Franklin died Sunday, February 5, 2017 at his home. He was the husband of Gertrude T. (Ryan) Ahern who died in 2013.
Born in Lawrence on July 23, 1925, he was the son of the late William A. and Dolores C. (Ellard) Ahern, Sr.
Mr. Ahern was a resident of Franklin since 1964 grew up in Roslindale and West Roxbury.
He served in the Army during WWII and before his retirement, worked at Boston City Hospital in the shipping and receiving department for many years.
Mr. Ahern liked to bowl and listen to the music of his era. He was an avid sports fan and loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children, William Ahern, III and his wife Julie of Bellingham, AnnMarie Invernizzi and her husband Shawn of Franklin, Joseph Ahern and his longtime companion Mary of Thorndike, Robert Ahern and his wife Lisa of Uxbridge and Elizabeth Ahern of Franklin.
He is also survived by three grandchildren Ryan, Kyle and Kayleigh, a sister Katherine Maher of Readville and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Dolores and Lawrence Ahern and Elizabeth Butler.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) on Thursday, February 9 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village St. in Medway at 10 a.m.
Burial will take place at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on TUESDAY, February 14 at 1:00 p.m.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m.
