Martha “Wylene” Matthews Jackson, 90, of Tifton passed away Monday, February 6, 2017, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2017, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Dr. Fred Evers officiating. Mrs. Jackson will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 7, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Michael Horton, Daniel Jackson, Chris Jackson, Tyler Jackson, Adam Wright, Craig Harpe, Cade Jackson and Andon Wright will serve as pallbearers.
Born January 1, 1927 in Tift County, Mrs. Jackson was the daughter of the late Bessie Lou Walters Matthews and the Rev. Thomas Homer Matthews. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Eddie Jackson, Jr.; one son, Randy Eugene Jackson; one grandson, Mitchell Jackson; one brother, Homer Matthews; and one sister, Vivian Lindsey. She worked for the Tift County Board of Education as a lunchroom worker at Tift County High School and Northside Elementary. She retired from Fitzgerald Underwear and was a charter member of Northside Baptist Church in Tifton.
Mrs. Jackson is survived by her children and their spouses, James Thomas “Tommy” and Tracy Jackson of Cordele, William Larry and Martha Jackson of Albany, Sandra Lee Giddens of Tifton, Mary Elaine and Bobby Blanchard of Ocilla, Authur Glenn and Sarah Jackson of Alapaha and Carl Anthony and Kathy Jackson of Tifton; three sisters, Marie Shipley of Tifton, Ruth Davis of Rock Hill, South Carolina and Maxine Keoughan of Macon; her best friend, Mrs. Laura Gibson; 22 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren.
