William (Bill) Newton died quietly at his residence in Franklin, MA on February 4, 2017.
Mr. Newton was born on January 1, 1926 in Torrington, CT. The son of Charles and Alma (Munger) Newton, he was the ninth of their ten children.
A proud and humble patriot, Bill served in the United States Navy during World War II as a coxswain on the destroyer escort, USS Mack. His duties were primarily carried out as part of the Pacific fleet from January, 1944 until his honorable discharge in May, 1946.
Bill met his wife of 67 years, Carolyn, in Florida soon after the war. They married in 1950 and moved back to Connecticut, where they raised their five children. Bill worked for the Connecticut Light and Power Company as a lineman and supervisor until his retirement in 1985. Shortly thereafter, he and Carolyn moved to their vacation home in Maine. They enjoyed nearly three decades of well deserved, peaceful living, which included extensive travel throughout Europe and North America.
In addition to Carolyn, Bill is survived by his daughter Deborah, and sons Daniel, Paul, John, and Christopher. Bill and Carolyn boast 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church,1 Church Square, Franklin, MA on Saturday, February 11th at 11 AM. His interment will be held privately.
