GEORGIA R. CAFFREY, 83

Scarborough, ME. Georgia Roberta Caffrey died February 4, 2017 at The Maine Veterans’ Homes, in Scarborough, Maine, following a long illness. Born November 12, 1933 in Lawrence, MA, the daughter of Raymond F. and Ruth D. (Scanlon) Caffrey, she was a graduate of St. Augustine School (Tower Hill) and St. Mary High School, in Lawrence. She attended Lowell Normal School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1956.
Miss Caffrey worked as an editor at Houghton Mifflin Publishing Company in Boston. In 1970 she received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Simmons College in Boston. For many years she worked as a freelance proofreader of college textbooks, working from homes in Attleboro Falls, MA and later in Maine at Moody Beach and Newfield. Declining health caused her to move to The Maine Veterans’ Homes in Scarborough.
Miss Caffrey was predeceased by her brothers, Raymond F. Caffrey, Jr. and William H. Caffrey. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Thomas F. and Eleanor E. Caffrey, of Wells, ME. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Pauline H. Caffrey of Mt. Juliet, TN and Cathleen M. Caffrey of York, ME. She also leaves eight nieces and nephews: Raymond F. Caffrey, III, Louise H. Caffrey, Michael P. Caffrey, Maura E. Caffrey, Matthew A. Caffrey, Sarah F. Bachand, Alanna S. Rosenberg, and Meaghan C. Caffrey, and many grandnieces and grandnephews. The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at the Maine Veteran’s Homes for the care and kindness extended to Georgia during her stay at the Scarborough facility.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish at St. Theresa’s Church, 22 Plymouth St., Methuen, MA. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lawrence, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to call at St. Theresa’s Church prior to the Mass from 9:30 to 10:45 A.M.
