Mary Ellen Westgate, 89, passed away peacefully at Marian Manor on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017. She was the wife of the late Clinton A. Westgate Jr. Born in Taunton, the daughter of the late George & Bridget (Brophy) Newman. She resided and was educated in Taunton. Mary was a communicant of Annunciation of the Lord Parish. She was a graduate of the first class of the of the Commonwealth of MA Program of Practical Nursing, later working for the former Foxboro State Hospital and retiring from Taunton State Hospital. She was a member of the Fall River Diocesan Council of Catholic Nurses and the Segregansett Country Club. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needlepoint and reading. She leaves her two children, Barbara Gauthier and her husband Arthur of Taunton and Paul Westgate and his wife Ann Marie of Raynham and the late Donald Westgate. She also leaves her grandchildren, David Gauthier and his wife Jean of Stoughton, Steven Gauthier and his wife Lisa, Michelle Tuffile and her husband Charles of Swansea, Michael Westgate of Raynham and Daniel Westgate and his wife Melissa of Raynham. She leaves thirteen great grandchildren, Matthew Gauthier, Conrad Gauthier, Ariel Pepin, Camden, Tucker, Hollis, Stuart, Celia and Quinton Tuffile, Michael Jr., Ryan and Caitlin Westgate, Meaghan Tyrell and the late Andrew B. Gauthier. Also one great great granddaughter Norah Tyrell. Mary also leaves one brother in law Ronald Westgate and his wife Beatrice of Mashpee, several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late James Brophy, George and Lawrence Newman and Shirley Levesque. Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 on Weds. Feb. 8th at 9 am. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Annunciation of the Lord Church at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Tues. from 4-7 pm. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton. The family would like to thank the staff of Marian Manor for their love and compassion in the caring for Mary the past sixteen months.
