Obituary

Kathleen Veronica (McCabe) Buckley, 96, of New Bedford died February 3, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late William Buckley with whom she shared 64 years of marriage.
A lifelong resident of New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Mary (McHugh) McCabe. She attended Holy Family High School.
Kathleen was a lifelong communicant of the Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish and enjoyed celebrating her faith every weekend with her fellow parishioners and pastor.
Mrs. Buckley enjoyed sharing memories of her lifetime in New Bedford. She helped take care of her younger brothers and sisters and worked at a young age to help support her family. As a young but very responsible girl, she helped the wives of several fishing captains in New Bedford and Fairhaven by babysitting their children and providing company while their husbands were at sea. During World War II, she contributed to the vital war support at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., Aerovox and Cornell-Dubilier while her husband served in battle in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include three sons, Dennis W. Buckley and Donald J. Buckley, both of New Bedford and James F. Buckley and his wife Julie of Fanwood, NJ; her sister, Margaret Hebert of South Dartmouth; two grandchildren, Daniel T. Buckley of Philadelphia and Lauren E. Buckley of Brookline, MA; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Kathleen was the sister of the late Hugh McCabe, Grace Haworth and Donald McCabe.
Mrs. Buckley always appreciated the help she received from her doctors and their staff, Tanisha Allen and Coastline Elderly and Community Nurse Home Care.
Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 7th at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 10 AM.
