Frederick J. Spencer, 70, of Hanson, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, January 31, 2017.
Frederick was born on December 22, 1946 in Brockton to Ronald and Alice (Harriman) Spencer. He graduated from Brockton High School in 1964, from Bridgewater State University in 1981, and received his MBA from Northeastern University in 1989.
On July 26, 1974 he married Roberta Seward in Whitman. Frederick was employed by Ocean Spray Cranberries for over 30 years. He was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Whitman, served for several years as a member of the Kiwanis Club of Hanson, and was scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 34 in Hanson during his son’s youth.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading, and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Frederick is survived by his wife of 42 years, Roberta; his son, Matthew Spencer of Hanson; his daughter, Amy Griffin and her husband Ian of Warwick, RI; his daughter Elizabeth Spencer of Attleboro; his grandchildren, Logan and Declan; his in-laws Bill and Carol Seward of Hanson; his brother Ronald Spencer and his wife Mar-Kay of Newport News, VA; his brother Richard “Dave” Spencer and his wife Meredith of Bridgeport, WA; his sister Valerie Malinowski of Brockton; his sister Rebecca Bollans and her husband Dave of Murfreesboro, NC; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Alice, and brother-in-law, Edward Malinowski.
Frederick was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, February 10 at the First Congregational Church of Whitman, 519 Washington Street, Whitman, Massachusetts 02382. Pastor Josh Gray will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, you are invited to make a donation to the Frederick Spencer Memorial Fund at the First Congregational Church in Whitman.
