Frances K. “Auntie Butchie” LoBlundo, of Somerville, formerly of Boston’s West End, passed away on Tuesday, January 31st at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. She was 82.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Liborio and Maria (DiGregorio) LoBlundo and attended local schools.
Auntie Butchie was a woman who lived her life centered on Christian values such as love, caring for family and friends and acts of kindness. She was truly admired by her family for her generosity of spirit. She never judged anyone, she just loved you. Auntie Butchie was an intelligent woman and knew that people needed love and kindness.
She always had time for her family. In fact, each day was dedicated to one person. She would call one person on a specific day or visit with someone else of a specific day—always keeping true to her routine. She never missed any of her family member’s birthdays. Her nieces and nephews remember all the Sunday dinner’s at her home and look back to those memories with great joy.
Auntie Butchie was a proud “West Ender” and would take the opportunity to tell you so if the moment arose. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening. In her garden she always had pansies and lilacs. She will be known for having a Magnolia tree in her yard. She took pride in caring for it and it was extra special to her because her mother planted it. Her favorite part about it was when it would bloom. It’s beauty was breathtaking. Auntie Butchie always made sure that her home was beautiful, both inside and out. An avid sports fan, she enjoyed watching the Celtics and Red Sox and was a former bowler. Auntie Butchie had the “Travel Bug” and enjoyed seeing new places. She visited Las Vegas thirteen times. The attraction to Las Vegas was not the gambling, but the shows and vibrant atmosphere. She also traveled to Italy, Hawaii and took many Bus Trips around the country.
She was the devoted aunt of Marie, Frankie, Linda, Cathy, Joanne, Debbie, John, Joseph, Marie, Eleanor, Cathy, Patty, Billy, George, Rick, Bobby, Darlene and Judy as well as twenty-eight great nieces and nephews, nine great-great nieces and nephews and one great-great-great nephew. Auntie Butchie is also survived by many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings Ferdinand LoBlundo, Benedetta “Betty” Napoli, Angelina Venezia, John LoBlundo and Anna Cogswell.
Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on Saturday, February 4th at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Ann Church, 399 Medford Street, Somerville, at 10AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4 through 8PM. Services will conclude with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
