Obituary

Freeman N. Lopes, 93, of Boston died January 31, 2017 unexpectedly at Susan Bailis Assisted Living in Boston.
Born and raised in New Bedford, the son of the late Nicolas M. and Margaret (Spencer) Lopes, he lived in New York before moving to Boston 40 years ago.
He enjoyed listening and dancing to jazz music.
Mr. Lopes served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He participated in the Battles of Normandy and Northern France, and was a recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign ribbon and the World War II Victory medal.
Survivors include his brother, Benjamin "Benny" Lopes of Everett; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Anthony Lopes, the companion of the late Alice Harris and the brother of the late Edward "Da Da" Lopes, Louis Lopes, Francisco "Frank" Lopes, Manuel "Lefty" Lopes, Joseph Lopes, Norman Lopes, Antone Lopes, Aurora Barros and Anna Alves.
His Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 6th at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, February 5th from 12-3 PM.
