Helen F. (Rose) Costa, 84, of Middletown, RI passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Grand Islander. She was the former wife of the late George J. Costa.
Mrs. Costa was born in Tiverton, the youngest of 12 children, to the late Victor S and Sinerina (Rosa) Rose. Victor often said that he had given his wife “a dozen Roses”. Mrs. Costa had resided in both Adamsville RI and Westport MA prior to moving to Middletown. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed painting, and she loved to dance. Her love of music inspired her to learn to play several types of musical instruments. She also loved animals and was known to foster everything including doves, deer, owls, and many farm animals.
Survivors include her children: Kathleen Bennett of Dartmouth, Cynthia Souza of Fall River and George Costa of New Bedford; her 3 granddaughters: Nicole Bennett Santana, Danielle Bennett and Mackenzie Souza; her great grandson: Nixon Bennett Santana; companion: Joseph Viveiros; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Victor S Rose, Jr., John H. Rose, Dorothy K. Bettencourt, Mary Mulford, Adeline “Lena” Mello, Frances Rose, Rose E. Flores, Theresa Schafft, Frank Rose, Josephine Smith and Manuel S. Rose.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Tuesday, February 7, 2017 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport, at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours will be Monday from 5-8 P.M.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
