Obituary

Mrs. Alice (Emond) Benoit, of Taunton, died Tuesday, January 31 at her residence following a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of the late Ludger Benoit. She was born 95 years ago in Taunton, the daughter of the late Pierre and Rosealma (Demers) Emond. She was educated in Taunton and had been a lifelong city resident. Prior to her retirement, Alice had been employed as a leather trimmer for the former Geilich Tannery in Taunton for 37 years. She was a family oriented woman, having raised 5 generations of her family’s children. Alice was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved children. Whether visiting a park with a child or enjoying get-togethers with her extended family, she held a special spot in her heart for all. Her family was a great source of pride to Alice. One of 12 children in a tightly knit family, she loved sharing times with them, from dinners at her mother's with her siblings through more recent gatherings with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Alice's love spanned many generations and she adapted to changing times and customs with grace and acceptance. She enjoyed many celebrations with her family over the years and loved to dance. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Taunton.

She leaves: 1 daughter: Jeanne Abrams and her husband, Milton of Exeter, R.I.; her daughter-in-law, Jean Benoit of Taunton; 6 grandchildren: Dianna Young, Sharon Lopes and her husband, Richard, Lisa O’Neal and her husband, Steven, Thomas Benoit and his wife, Ritamarie, Todd Benoit, and Traci Silvia and her husband, Wayne; 12 great grandchildren: Nichole Soares, Jessica Soares, Tanner Lopes, Adam Young, Jade Young, Connor O’Neal, Skyler O’Neal, Hannah Silvia, Emma Silvia, Ava Silvia, Zachary Benoit, and Madison Benoit; 1 great great granddaughter: Jaylynne Volner, and several nieces and nephews. Alice was also the mother of the late Ronald Benoit.

Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Tuesday, February 7 at 9:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Monday, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.
