Obituary

WORCESTER-Sigismund “Ziggy” L. Koperniak, 83, of 588 Mill Street, died Sunday, August 28th in Lawrence Memorial Hospital in New London. His wife Rosalie E. (Socha) Koperniak died in 1975. He leaves 2 sons; Thomas P. Koperniak of Dalton and Stephen J. Koperniak of Worcester, 4 daughters; Marianne R. Koperniak-Snebold of Roanoke, VA, Elizabeth M. Beamenderfer of Worcester, Teresa M. Tracy and Elaine M. Kamyck-Racine both of Sutton, a brother; Stanislaus Koperniak and a sister Pauline Saharczewski both of Adams, MA. He also is survived by 17 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces and his long time companion Esther Moynagh of Worcester. 4 brothers and 2 sisters predeceased him.

He was born in Adams the son of Louis and Helena (Bukowska) Koperniak. Mr. Koperniak was a graduate of The College of the Holy Cross, and received his Law Degree from Boston University. He was a World War 2 Navy veteran and later worked as an insurance broker for John Hancock Insurance, he retired in 1979. Mr. Koperniak had been past-president and a Director of the PNI and PNA Clubs, a member of the Polish American Veterans and American Legion Post 288 as well as a member of the Tin Can Sailors. He enjoyed traveling, playing cribbage and pinochle.

The funeral is Wednesday, August 31st from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday, August 30th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
