TEWKSBURY - Mr. Douglas John Lamb, age 90, patriarch of a large Tewksbury family, died peacefully on Monday morning, January 30, at Lowell General Hospital’s Saints Campus. He was the beloved husband of Theresa I. (Gettings) Lamb, who died in April 2009.
He was born in the Mattapan section of Boston in March 1926, the only child of the late Frederick and Ellen (McIver) Lamb. Upon graduation from High School he enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1943, at the age of 17. He served as a Radioman aboard a Submarine, the USS Hobson, in the Pacific War Theater. He earned the WWII Victory Medal, American Theater Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal, and was honorably discharged in 1946.
Douglas spent his entire working career at Car Fastener Corporation’s Cambridge Manufacturing facility as a machine mechanic.
He devoted his life to raising his family of eight, but found the time to enjoy Golf, Bowling, and the Daily Numbers lottery games.
He leaves his children, Douglas J. Lamb Jr., of Canada and FL, Kevin Lamb of Tewksbury, Kathy Monette and her husband Alan of Nashua, NH, Steven Lamb and his wife Marilyn of CA, Keith Lamb of CA, Jeff Lamb of Tewksbury, Karen Lamb of Hudson, NH; nine grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and was predeceased by his daughter, Barbara Monoco.
A Memorial Prayer Service will be held Friday, Feb. 3, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel at St. Mary Cemetery, 72 River Road, No. Tewksbury. Arrangements are through the Tewksbury Funeral Home.
