Obituary

James M. Jeffrey, Sr., 82, of Manchester, NH, passed away Monday, January 30, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at the Catholic Medical Center, Manchester. He was born in Boston, MA on November 29, 1934, a son of the late William and Florence (Gardas) Jeffrey and was raised and educated in East Boston. He was a resident of Londonderry for over 40 years, prior to his move to Manchester. He owned a Mink Ranch before he went on to become a truck driver and a loyal Member of the Teamsters Local 633. He was actively involved in the Londonderry community. He was one of the founders of the Londonderry Little League and helped establish a football league. He also helped establish the Londonderry Lions Club where he was a member for over 40 years and he received a lifetime achievement award. He enjoyed fishing, cards, bingo and many car trips all over the country. He also loved to swim for hours, whether it was in a pool or the ocean. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His presence at the kid’s and grandkids games and sports will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Roberta (Marley) Jeffrey, his five children, Alice Hemingway and husband Scott, Roberta Kopka and husband Dana, James M. Jeffrey, Jr., Scott Jeffrey and wife Joanne, and Paul Jeffrey and wife Cheryl; 11 grandchildren, Kallee, Jamey, Cindy, Jenni, Chris, Heather, Elizabeth, Adam, Lindy, Ainessa, and Tina; seven great grandchildren, Marley, Sadie, James, Joseph, Owen, Keegan and Jaxon; one brother, William Jeffrey, one sister, Harriet Jeffrey, sister-in-law, Judy Jeffrey, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one son, Baby Jeffrey, one brother, Joe and four sisters, Mary, Florence, Margarite and Elizabeth.

Calling hours were held on Monday, February 6, 2017 from 4 pm to 8 pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 10 am in St. Anthony’s church, Belmont Street, Manchester with cremation to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the Londonderry Lion’s Club.
