Walter Roane “Walt” Hardy, Jr., age 88, died January 30, 2017 at his home in Water Valley, MS. He was born August 10, 1928 to the late Walter R. Hardy and Pink James Hardy. Walt served in the United States Army and returned home to work as a land surveyor for the Mississippi Highway Department for 33 years. He and was a member of First Baptist Church in Water Valley. Walt enjoyed fishing, hunting for duck and quail, and also had a passion for growing vegetables and helping others.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2017 from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Bain officiating. Burial will take place in Pinecrest Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Josh Harris, Chris Terry, Landon Moore, Devin Moore, Mike Hardy, and Jack Hughes. Bryce Terry will serve as honorary pallbearer.
Walt is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jo Jones Hardy of Water Valley, MS; two daughters, Libby Harris and her husband Bill, and Lori Thomas, all of Water Valley, MS; one son, Walter Hardy III, and his wife Debra, of Tula, MS; one sister, Myra Nell Johnson of Columbus, GA; two brothers, John Hardy and his wife Susan, of Hernando, MS and Jim Hardy and his wife Kay, of Bruce, MS; five grandchildren, Candi Terry, Josh Harris, Landon Moore, Devin Moore, and Mike Hardy; eight great grandchildren, Bryce Terry, Baylie Terry, Laken Hardy, Avery Jo Hardy, Olivia Elizabeth Moore, Blair Harris, Leo Roane Harris and Lyle Harris.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Herma Dale Hardy.
