Obituary


Ruth I. (Barron) Buckley age 93 of Brockton died Saturday January 28, 2017 at the Royal Megansett in North Falmouth after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late John C. Buckley. Ruth was born in Brockton and was a daughter of the late Thomas W. and Blanche (Gale) Barron. She was a true Brocktonian who remained a lifelong resident of the city.
A 1941 Graduate of Brockton High School, Ruth enjoyed staying in touch with classmates and served throughout her life on her class reunion committee. She was part of America’s Greatest Generation and was employed during WWII at Fore River Shipyard in Quincy. Ruth received her bachelor degree from Mass State College in 1946 in microbiology where she was a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.
She pursued a career in microbiology at a number of local area hospitals. When her children were older, Ruth worked for the Brockton School Department in their food service program and retired after 34 years of devoted service to the children of Brockton.
Ruth enjoyed gardening, boating and was a lifelong Bruins fan. She summered with her family in Onset and enjoyed boating at the Onset Bay Marina. Most importantly, Ruth enjoyed family gatherings and cherished her time spent with her grandchildren. She blessed holiday gatherings and family birthdays with her unfailing humor and laughter.
Ruth is survived by her four children, Tom Buckley of Brockton, Rosemary Peterson and her husband Skip of Belmont, Kathryn Deasy and her husband Bob of North Falmouth, and Jack Buckley and his wife Barbara of Cohasset. She leaves eight grandchildren, John Peterson, Kathryn Sousa, Colleen Deasy Lingenheld, Robert Deasy, Michaela Deasy, Joe Buckley, Benjamin Buckley and Mitchell Buckley. Ruth also leaves four beloved great grandchildren, Allie, John and Leah Peterson and Kelly Sousa. Ruth was the sister of Blanche Tyrrell of West Bridgewater, Ina Mae Keohane of Naples, NY and the late James Barron and Jane Flynn.
Visitation will be held at the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (rte. 123) Brockton on Thursday February 2, her 94th birthday, 8:30 to 10am followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30am. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
