Obituary

Russell Burton Covell passed away on January 27, 2017 after a brief illness. Born on July 23, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Russell Oliver Covell and Evelyn Marguerite Wulstein Covell, Russell grew up in Floral Park and Roslyn, NY. He married Polly Staudinger in 1952 and together, they enjoyed 62 years of a wonderful family life, raising one daughter, Sally, and two sons, James and Andrew, in Granby, CT. He and Polly moved to Londonderry, NH in 2006.

After graduating from Roslyn High School, Russell served in the United States Navy during World War II before enrolling in college at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. He enjoyed a successful career as a mechanical engineer, working many years for Combustion Engineering in Windsor, CT. As an expert in his field, his work included advising foreign companies in the power manufacturing industry.

A person of many interests and talents, Russell shared with his wife, Polly, their love of family and travel during their retirement years. Vacations with their children and grandchildren on Cape Cod and elsewhere were amongst his happiest and most fulfilling activities. He also enjoyed carpentry, deep sea fishing, gardening, reading, and spending time on the golf course and at the billiards table.

Russell was predeceased by his parents, Russell and Evelyn, his wife, Polly, and two sisters, Dorothy and Barbara. He is survived by his sister, Phyllis Richardson of North Brunswick, NJ; his daughter, Sally Bertrand and husband Michael of Derry, NH; sons, James Covell and wife Mary of Leesburg, VA and Andrew Covell and wife Margaret of Boxborough, MA; grandchildren, Sarah and Thomas Bertrand and Daniel and Kirsten Covell; and other extended family. He was loved by all his family and will be deeply missed.

Arrangements will be private. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium is assisting the family with arrangements.
