Joan C. (Shields) O’Neil, age 84, of Brockton, died peacefully on January 25, 2017 at Good Samaritan Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of Leo F. O’Neil, Jr, for over 52 years. Born in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Margaret T. (O’Leary) Shields. Joan was raised in Cambridge and was a graduate of St. John’s Catholic School. Joan was a resident of Brockton for the last 49 years, where she spent her happiest times with her family. She was known for her sweet personality and her contagious laugh, and was most proud of her three sons.
Loving mother of William O’Neil and his wife Diane of Tennessee, Bruce O’Neil and his wife Gina of Pembroke and David O’Neil and his wife Mindy of Brockton, three grandchildren; Brittany Wilson, Shane and Kelly O’Neil, 2 great grandchildren; Allison and Katy Wilson, a sister/best friend Patricia Aucella and the late Arthur Aucella of Brockton; a special niece Bonnie Pietragallo and her husband John and their daughters Alexandra and Kerri. She was the sister of the late Thomas Shields, and also had many more nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, MA on Monday January 30th from 4-7pm, followed by a funeral service at 7pm. Please consider donations in Joan’s name to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
