Obituary

Fredrick “Fred” Loyd Sumner, 83, of Enigma passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at his residence. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mr. Sumner at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Hickory Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Tifton, where he will be laid to rest. The Rev. Landon Alberson will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 28, 2017, from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Charles Goodman, Clay Goodman, Gary Kearce, Brandon Kearce and Matt Barnes will serve as pallbearers.

Born September 21, 1933 in Miami, Florida, Mr. Sumner was the son of the late Glynn Sumner and Eunie Sumner. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, W. B. Sumner, Jake Sumner and Benjamin Sumner; and two sisters, Rhudine Sealey and Myrtle Miner. He was retired from the United States Wage and Hour Department, where he served as president of the union. He was a veteran of the United States Army and graduated from Emory University. He served on the Berrien County Board of Tax Equalization and was a cattle farmer. He loved animals and picked up every stray in a 50-mile radius. He also loved genealogy.

Mr. Sumner is survived by one brother, Rudolph Sumner of Florida; and his dog, Susie.
