Obituary

Marlyn Anne Simmons, age 83, of Duxbury, passed away on January 22, 2017. She was born in Philadelphia in 1933 to the late Annie and John McCain. Marlyn was the cherished wife of Frederick J.Simmons Sr, who passed away in 1991. She was the beloved mother and best friend to all her children, Frederick Simmons Jr. and his wife Carol of Halifax, Patricia Simmons Kearns and her husband Paul of Marshfield, William Simmons of Duxbury, and John Simmons and his fiancée Amy Autorino of Weymouth. She was the adored grandmother of Alison, Tyler, and Jeff Kearns of Marshfield.
Marlyn graduated from Haddonfield High School in New Jersey in 1951. After graduation, she worked as a bookkeeper where she met and later married her husband, Fred. They lived in Philadelphia, moved to Arlington, MA and finally settled in Duxbury in 1969 where they raised their four children. Marlyn enjoyed reading, playing bingo, and time spent with her loyal dog Spencer. She was an avid QVC shopper and could often times be found curled up with a cup of tea listening for the latest trends or clever new products.
Marlyn’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was an endless tower of strength, always putting the needs of others before her own. She never failed to offer up a hot meal or a piece of insightful advice. She will always be remembered for her kindness, her selfless personality, her huge heart, and the love she left behind for all who were fortunate enough to have known and loved her.
