Robert O. Emmons, Sr.
Founder of Bob’s Barbershop
TEWKSBURY: Robert O. “Bob” Emmons, Sr., age 87, a longtimeTewksbury resident, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, January 24, 2017.
He was the beloved husband of Jeanne “Gina” (Creswell) Emmons, with whom he celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary on December 18, 2016.
Born in Boston on March 27, 1929, he was the son of the late Francis C. Emmons and the late Alice (Osgood) Emmons.
Bob attended Tewksbury schools.
In 1950, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Worcester. He was awarded several decorations for his military service including the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Navy Occupation Medal.
Following his honorable discharge from active duty, he returned to Tewksbury and worked at the Tewksbury Hospital.
In 1958, he founded Bob’s Barber Shop, a Tewksbury landmark which has been operated by the Emmons family for three generations.
Bob was a member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Post # 2070.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Susan Dollings of Chelmsford, Cynthia Jenkins of Lawrence, Linda Gibson of Lowell, Dianne Nocco of Tewksbury, Mark Kloetzer of Dracut and Robert Emmons, Jr. of Lowell; eleven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Bob was the father of the late Scott Emmons, brother of the late Paula Ronan, Francis, Charles and William Emmons, and father-in-law of the late Robert Nocco.
Calling hours are Monday, Jan. 30, from 9-11 a.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
