Obituary

Ray O. Oglesby, 88, of Franklin, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, in the Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Loretta A. (Poirier) Oglesby, to whom he was married for 62 years.

Born on July 13, 1928, in Osakis, Minnesota, he was the son of the late Ray and Ruth (Holmes) Oglesby.

Ray grew up in Gibson City, Illinois, and graduated from Illinois State University with his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts. He later went on to obtain his Master’s Degree in Education.

Ray was a proud US Navy Veteran who served during the Korean War.

Mr. Oglesby taught math at Newton Public Schools and Northeastern University and was a track coach at Weeks Junior High School.

In his spare time, Ray loved playing bridge and was almost a Life Master. He was also an avid New England sports fan and enjoyed fishing and playing poker with his buddies. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his wife, who was his best friend.

He is survived by his children, Ray Oglesby of North Grafton, Cathy Mann and her husband Dennis of Medfield, Christy Gagliani of Franklin, Colette Oglesby of Medfield, Tommy Oglesby of Worcester, Carolyn Mucinskas and her husband Frank of Foxboro, and Cindy Pritoni and her husband Tony of Norfolk, as well as his sister Doreen Gross and her husband Bill. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Melissa, Jamie, Carissa, Bobby, Leah, Danny, Jimmy, Dylan, Frank, John, and Thomas, and his great-grandchildren Hudson, Hunter, and Ava Jayne. He was the brother of the late Elaine Hawkins and Cecil Oglesby.

His calling hours will be held on Friday, January 27, from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com), 131 Main Street in Franklin, followed by a service at 7:00 PM. Interment will take place at a later date in Union Street Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his late wife’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association of Massachusetts, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
