Obituary



Mary A. McManus, age 88, passed away on January 18, 2017 at the Marian Manor, in South Boston.


Mary was born in Boston, on November 28, 1928 to the late James T. and Agnes M. Kelley (Mack). She was raised and educated in Dorchester schools. As a teenager she became a colorist for Loring’s Studio of Boston, during the war. She later became a photographer at Loring’s and Edgar’s Portrait Studio. She worked as colorist for Dodge/Murphy for many years, as well as for many other New England photographers. She was considered one of the best hand colorists in New England.

Mary was a wonderful and devoted mother to her children and grandchildren. She loved the beach and spent many summers on the beaches of the South Shore, Cape Cod, Rockport and Horseneck. She also enjoyed her vacations to Miami Beach and Naples, Florida.


She is survived by her children, Theresa Mackin of S. Boston, William Mackin, Jr. and his wife Alice, of W. Bridgewater and Suellyn Facchini of Plymouth. Her grandchildren Jennifer McGaughey and her husband Steven, of Plymouth. Ryan, Corey and Kasey Mackin of W. Bridgewater. Her great-granddaughter Maggie McGaughey ,of Plymouth.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John McManus. Her brother James Kelley of Abington and William Mackin of Brockton. She was also a friend of Bill W. for over 50 years.

Visitation and memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 12-2 PM with a service beginning at 1:00 PM at the Casper Funeral Home, 187 Dorchester St, South Boston.
