Obituary

Frank E. Garland IV of Hampstead, NH, died suddenly in his home on Sunday, January 22, 2017, at the young age of 65. He leaves a huge hole in the hearts and lives of those who loved him; he will be forever missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife Janet C. Garland, whom he called Rusty; son Frank E. Garland V and his wife Amy Garland, and grandchildren Bromley and Maya; daughter Katie McArdle and her husband Phil McArdle and granddaughters Skylar and Alexis; son Wesley Garland and wife Tiana Garland and three grandchildren, Quinn, Francesca and Addeline; his mother Phyllis Garland of Freeport, ME; two brothers, Larry Garland and Steven Garland; three sisters Ramona Cambell, Donna Brewer, and Tami Terpstra; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father Frank E Garland III and his brother David Garland.

Born and raised in a large, loving family in Freeport, ME, Frank attended Freeport public schools and spent his high school summers working at the Desert of Maine. He ventured off to Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA, where he worked on his practical jokes, pick-up basketball, building lifelong friendships, and most importantly, cat-calling a beautiful redhead on campus, Janet Cox, whose heart he managed to win. They went on to raise a family in Hampstead, NH, and found a wonderful church family in Calvary Bible Church of Derry, NH. A business analyst at heart who never wished to retire, he spent the last few years as a contractor, most recently sharing his tireless work ethic and positive attitude at BCG of Boston and Harvard Business School.

Frank loved spending time with the love of his life, and playing with his grandchildren. He could frequently be found lying on the floor with them, laughing or rocking them to sleep while singing. An avid reader and an early riser, he often started his day at 4am with his Bible and the news, and ended his day with a good book. Frank enjoyed exploring the White Mountains of NH, especially to find a good fishing spot. He loved watching and cheering for all of the New England sports teams, and he passed that love on to his children. His love for music, which he learned from his father, was evident when he played his trumpet or chord harmonica. What Frank is best known for is his amazing sense of humor and love for Jesus Christ, both of which he shared with others daily. He loved to make people laugh, and share with them what a great Savior he served. His family’s greatest desire is to uphold his legacy as a true example of love for Jesus and for family by way of laughter and joy.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 28th 2017, at Calvary Bible Church, 145 Hampstead Road, Derry, NH. Visiting hours and time of fellowship immediately followed the service.
