HOLLIS- “Lindy” Linwood Herman Walker, age 82, formerly of Cape Road, passed away on Jan. 21, 2017 at The Barron Center in Portland.
He was born in Mechanic Falls on December 16, 1934, a son of the late Wendell and Helena (Gagne) Walker.
Linwood proudly served his country in the National Guard and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
He later worked for Bailey's Auto, and owned and operated Lindy's Auto Parts in Westbrook and Windham. He then purchased RAB Distributors where he sold filters and batteries for local business fleets. After semi-retiring, he worked for Williams Brothers in Portland.
In 1983, Linwood started a horse farm in Hollis by building an indoor arena. He assisted with lessons and boarding and helped as a ring steward at horse shows. He was involved with local and national horse clubs.
He will always be remembered for the enjoyment he had trail riding with horses, fishing, hunting, playing cribbage, watching old cowboy movies, and being in the kitchen making some of the best steaks ever.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife- Theresa (Kennie) Walker in 2012; and siblings- Bernard Walker, Theodore Belanger and Jeannette Harmon.
Linwood is survived by his daughters- Kathy King and her husband Sonny of Hollis, Debbie Emerson and her husband Steve of NC, and Marcia Lyon and her fiancé Chuck of Limington; an “adopted” son- Dr. Manuel Valverde of France; siblings- Evelyn Strout, Allan Walker, Henry Walker and Helen Thorn; grandchildren- Heather Cote and her husband Chris, Amber Grenier and her husband Gary, Whitney Gregoire and her husband Joey, Christie Alexander and her husband Robert, Scott Lyon and his wife Devin, and Chris Emerson and his wife Megan; and one expected great grandchild in August.
A memorial service with military honors will be held on Saturday, June 24, at 10 AM, at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton. Online condolence messages can be submitted at the funeral home's website, www.mainefuneral.com
