Domenico Torra, of Somerville, passed away Friday, January 20th at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center in Revere. He was 90.
Born in San Sossio Baronia, Italy, he was the son of the late Francesco and Maria (Contardo) Torra. Domenico and his wife were married on April 22, 1951 in Italy. The two came to United States in 1970 first settling in Boston’s North End, where they lived for eleven years. Domenico later moved his family to Somerville where he has lived for the last thirty-six years.
Domenico was a meat cutter and enjoyed his career serving the community. Following his retirement in 1990, hes spent much of his spare time with family and friends. He enjoyed gardening and in his garden he had a fig tree. His grandchildren say that the fig tree was his passion. Domenico was an excellent cook and made his own sausage and wine at his home. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
He was the beloved husband of Maria (Fabiano) Torra. The devoted father of Francesco M. Torra and his wife Josephine of Medford, Vincenza DiFlumeri and her husband Antonio of Revere. He was the loving grandfather of Marianna Torra of Medford, Francesco M. Torra, Jr. and his wife Michelle of Melrose, Palmina Panzini and her husband Eric of Peabody, Annamaria and Basilio DiFlumeri, both of Revere. The loving great grandfather of Domenic and Anthony Torra and Luca Panzini. He was the Dear brother of Raffaele and Gerardo Rinaldi and the late Felippo, Michela, Celeste Rinaldi. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford on Wednesday, January 25th at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford at 10AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 through 8PM. Services will conclude with entombment at Holy Cross Mausoleum, Malden.
