John H. Drane, 86

John H. Drane, age 86, a resident of Norton since 1939, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at the Golden Living Center-Garden Place in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Lucile (Puscheck) Drane, to whom he was wed for forty-one years.
Born in Watertown, MA on May 29, 1930, he was a loving son of the late Charles and Margaret (Mahoney) Drane.
John was educated in Norton Public Schools and a graduate of Monsignor Coyle High School in Taunton. He later received an Associates degree from Bristol Community College and a Bachelor’s and Masters degree in Education from UMass Amherst.
Mr. Drane was a salesman, realtor and businessman. He began working with his father and managed the former Chartley Esso Service Station. He was the founder, owner and operator of Chartley Beer & Wine from 1988-2017.
Active in Town Public Service, John was a former member of the Finance Committee, School Committee and Board of Selectmen. John was also an avid fan and loved to talk Boston sports.
John was an active member of St. Mary’s Church in Norton, a Marian Medal Recipient, a member of the Knights of Columbus council # 11690 in Norton, the Cardinal O’Connell 4th Degree Assembly, a former member of council #404 in Attleboro and a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted sons Matthew Drane and his wife Karen of Norton, and Patrick Drane and his wife Crystal of Lowell. He was the dear brother of Elizabeth Gould of Reading, and the late William Drane and Charles Drane. He was the adoring grandfather of Rebecca, Evan and John, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday, January 27th at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 26th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Church Building Fund or St. Mary’s St. Vincent DePaul Society.
